Marcia Barbakoff, Berta Rubin & Debbie Usadi were my friends from "the block". Once I graduated from JHS 59 I lost regular touch with many of my Laurelton friends as I attended Aviation High. I graduated PS 156, JHS 59 and Andrew Jackson in 1965. We played punch ball and hide and seek until it got dark. Currently living in Viera, Florida where I just retired, so I have a little time to catch-up on the last 50 years.We had Brownies and Girl Scouts and Little League and Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. Currently have 38 years as a Volunteer Firefighter/Safety Officer/EMT-CC/Dept Secy/Engine Co Secy/Engine Driver/AHA/BCLS/CPR Instructor/Junior Firefighter Advisor in my current fire dept which now totals up to 50 years of volunteer service, including previous other corps and departments.We proudly marched each year in the Memorial Day Parade. Was a charter member of Laurelton Volunteer Ambulance Corps 1964-1969. Life is great - we are both retired and having fun in our Venetian Isles adult community. My neighbors were Grace and Herb Pomfrey and my other neighbors were two brothers Stu and David and their sister Wendy. Would love to know what happened to Jerry Sobel and others. Ronnie and I were bathroom monitors, and someone stole our pocketbooks with our collection of bus passes. The boy-next-door was Neal Dreznin, and I sat on the bar of his bike and we rode all over town. Schneider, the 3rd grade teacher, lived on our block.

My friends first in 7th grade at 59 were Joan Wallach, Murray Kowalsky & Fred Malowsky (sp? Later I became friends with Sherry Axelrod & we joined PDG. Married to Shep Peskoff who lived at 133-11 225th St. I remember Laurelton being a wonderful place to grow up.
Always looking to get a game of softball going after school at P. I remember Good Food grocery, Oscar Krieger's butcher, and the printing store where my mom worked with Connie Najmark.

My husband Jack lived in Arverne in the Rockaways 169th Street and Thursby Ave. We met at a Purim dance at the Laurelton Jewish Center Feb. Her mother's name was Marie Kelly and her sister was Debbie Kelly. Martinson who I used to write to when he was in Viet Nam. Another person was Paul Donados we were suppose to meet in front of St Patrick Cathedral for the year 2000 however I was ill and never made it. I am a retired accountant, currently living in Lake Norman (Cornelius), North Carolina. I've been living in Wellington, Florida for the past two years. I moved to Laurelton in 1961 from Inwood, Manhattan. I have lost contact with most of my friends from my Laurelton years and it would be nice to reconnect. John was a mechanic for the Green Bus Lines in Jamaica, NY. I worked at La Tasca's Pizza on Merrick Road (between 232 and 233) from 1965 to 1971. Every summer the "Center" which was located inside PS 176 on the first floor housed all of us and every week day we played ping pong, pool, kickball, basketball, etc. Many great summers took place there during the day and then in the "cement" park after the Center closed at p.m. I took my two boys (12 and 14) there in the summer of 2005 to show them the three houses I lived in, the schools I went to, and to share my memories of growing up there. We didn't lock the doors on our homes during the 1950s. Lived in Rochdale Village in the 60's and was best friends with Rita Levy (now Ratner) until leaving for Israel after graduating Queens College in 1972. My wife, Janice Schaerf Hamburg (AJHS 1963) an my sister, Linda Hamburg Berger (AJHS 1963) are also curious about any old friends that might view this web site. I remember eating lunch in the auditorium with my farmhouse lunchbox and thermos.
I attended PS 156 and JHS 59, and I graduated from AJHS in 1962. I went to PS 156, JHS 59 and Springfield Gardens HS grad 1969. One lives in Mount Kisco NY and the other lives in Philly PA. It had more of a Long Island "feel." I'm currently living in Princeton, NJ. Life revolved around school, the schoolyard, the LJC, little league and later hanging out on Merrick Road at such establishments as Carmine's Pizza. I loved my childhood and will never forget all my friends who lived there and who I grew up with. It's nice to see I'm not the only one with pangs of nostalgia about Laurelton. I have fond memories of Laurelton, riding bicycles, having hoola hoop contests, playing hop scotch. Does anyone remember other teachers Angela Cinque, Martin Groffman, Arthur Bryton, Martin Hohauser, and Mr. Thank you for the photos, for the memories and for setting up this website. Hello, all of you who shared in my childhood and teen years. So many of you have written about SING, and I remember writing those songs and, with Jessie Tillman, leading those fabulous shows.
